Battle of Dien Bien Phu is the largest battle in the VietNam War in the first place basin Muong Thanh (now the city of Dien Bien Phu), Lai Chau province (now split into Dien Bien province ) between the French army and the Vietnam People's Army. This is the greatest military victory in the war against France 1945 - 1954 in Vietnam.
On the international scene has a great significance: the first time an army of colonial countries of Asia militarily defeat an army of a European power. Battle of Dien Bien Phu was maintained to defeat the colonial Indochina, colonial areas of Africa country of France and forced to withdraw from Indochina. By 1967, France was forced to return to independence in all the French colonies.

@GodlessMartyr666 Yeah, they saw themselves as uniting their homeland and throwing out the invaders. The Vietnamese had fought China on and off for over 2000 years so being independent was a point of pride for the whole country. The NVA were serious business.

@Str4ng3F0lk the fact that they got the artillery up those hills still astonishes to this day, as they had no heavy lift capability , it was all done by manpower and simple tools like rope and wheel chocks.
