For several days I searched the old POTB line between Banks and Buxton, OR for this vintage EMD. I never found it, but then I got a tip from PNWrails who said it was in Timber. I drove down all the windy forest roads to the tiny community, and sure enough it was there, and had been for many years unused. The equipment is decaying out in the elements and the environment is slowly overtaking it.

If anyone's wondering where this engine is at, the town is called Timber, OR. It's a tiny community out in the coast range and can be found on google or yahoo maps.

  • Ill bye you Baby EMD :( I hate to see you there :(

  • I have photos of this SD9 working in Omaha in the mid 90s on a work train! And, of it in Denver in mid 80s; I think it is former C&S unit.

  • @MNpolarbear Me Too Keep Me Updated Can You Still Use It If You Asked About It.

  • I hope you had permission to be on private property?

Why should I email OCSR when they do not even own the locomotive?

  • I hate seeing stuff like this...it wouldn't be a waste of time for me...

  • i emailed ocsr to see if they were going to acquire the 6164, and they just emailed me back saying that they already have enough diesel power, their focus is on steam engines, and moving the engine would be a complete waste of time and resources. That being said, the 6164's fate seems sealed. If you want to email them with your response to this emai, here is their email address: info@ocsr.net

  • that engine needs to be saved and restored and put back into service on the OCSR along with the 101

  • it looks out west, where is this at?

  • where did anything go wrong to have a locomotive abandoned in the middle of the woods!?

  • Wow this is cool!! It's been sitting for a while, it's amazing how a rail line and and engine were forgotten and abandoned!! This is so cool. Were exactly is this?
