Thank you for the information, melvyd2. In my opinion, you have won this debate. The backup singer on Quicksilver's "Gypsy Lights" is indeed Kathi McDonald. Awesome song and now the "mystery" about the female voice on this song has been solved.

Kathi Is credited on the back of the album (Solid Silver), Grace slick is not. Many people simply have mistaken the 2 voices because Kathi is lesser known. Some web sights even make the error. That strong female voice you are hearing is Kathi Mcdonald....And she is fantastic, hope you will look into it.

Just becasue Grace is not credited doesn't mean she didn't sing on the album. David F was in Jefferson Starship at the time of this LP with Grace. Kathi is singing on this song as well as Grace. 0:51 "Baby" loud is Grace. You might want to ask Gary Duncan :)

The vocals are Kathi....good god give the woman the credit she deserves. If you listen to the Rolling Stones "All Down The Line" you'll get the picture.

Like I said, Kathi is singing as well as Grace on this song. Don't always take what the album notes say as the 100% truth. A lot of the San Fran artist played on other bands albums uncreditied. If you don't believe me about grace on this track, ask Gary Duncan, he wrote the song amigo! :)

I will gladly eat my words if you can produce an article with Gary stating the magic vocal is Grace. I remember clearly reading a goldmine article in the late 70's praising Kathi for this very vocal. Goldmine is pretty darn accurate in their research. Pete Sears was mentioned as playing on a few tracks but no mention of Grace. Also Graces own discography gives no mention of it even though there are many other very minor guest appearances mentioned.

If you listen to Kathi's solo stuff, some of her vocal peaks do sound very Grace Slick like. I stand by my statements that the 2 voices where mistaken and many web sights/fanzines have repoted it was Grace. Kathi is so over looked in the business, I just want her to get her due. If I'm wrong & it can be proven with an article or an interview from the band.....Well then..I'll eat my lunch on the roof.

Well I would gladly do that (email Gary) but I doubt I would make it past his junk filter.I will submit the question to Goldmine however & post the reply if I receive one.
