I've taken the liberty of creating this slideshow comparing maps of Mars made by telescopic observations (1962) and visits by space probes (1969-2000), based on a post at the Planetary Society's blog featuring the cartographic work of Phil Stooke.

All of Phil's maps use the same projection and everything appears in the same position on each map, which makes for really effective slideshow transitions.
