Antonio Graceffo has discovered that you cant usually find BJJ, MMA or great grappling training in Asia (apart from Japan and Korea) but every major country in Asia has wrestling and judo. If you are training around Asia, go out and find the local judo or wrestling club and get some cross training. Antonio is a complete novice in grappling. In this episode of Martial Arts Odyssey, he grapples with a 110 KG judo black belt and gets severely destroyed.

  • You obviously made mistakes grappling but you do have some nice instincts. The Judokas will give you their backs a lot as oppose to the BJJ guys due to the rules. Try not to cross the legs when you have his back there's a foot triangle you can get caught in. When hi leaves his arm in like that (7:15) you can move the hips and armbar him. When he's on cross side (around 7:35) grab your hands and using both arms push the face and try to get your legs to his head so u can escape.

  • thanks, i dont have much grappling training, just a bit i picked up in eight years of doing my shows and writing articles about martial arts in asia. i hope to learn grappling at some point.

  • Yeah that kid can't fight. Tony would tear him apart!

  • this windmill guy is crazy! next time hit some uppercuts to the chin and knock him down, if hes swinging like that his front is totally open. but i know you didnt want to hurt him this way, a little bit funny to watch this fight.

  • in his mind he said come on barbee lets go party aye aye yaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

  • that dude u were sparring looked as if he was jus out there to hurt u.

  • horrible boxing by this guy. teach him some boxing skills.

  • A lot of judoka give up their back because there's a common practice of just turtling up until the ref stands both fighters up again. The ground game of judo (newaza) only lasts a few seconds at a time generally, so it's usually preferable to just "lay and pray" rather than go for a submission like in BJJ.

Do you know of any judo, wrestling, shuai jiao, or sanda dojos around Shin Zhu?

  • i call that chicken fighting ,he didn't know how to throw a basic jab ect . ,you could at least teach him something to make it some challenge in your work out ,he was wasting alot energy, omg you should stop the sparing ,i could take on judo guy

  • I will go for Antonio G. Hehe You are the man bro. The other opponent is not a professional one. Go for a knock out Tony...Rod
