Our most recent acquisition was the Gustave Baumann House. The adobe house that Baumann built is a significant representation of artist's houses in Santa Fe during the early twentieth century. Designed as a studio with living quarters by the artist, the building devoted almost as much space to producing art as to home functions.
The interior walls of the building represent Baumann's largest "work of art". Our greatest achievement was to complete their work -- update the house to current codes and uses -- with the new work being indiscernible. Besides being one of Santa Fe best known artist, Baumann, carved marionettes that were performed by his wife Jane and daughter Ann. During the Baumann period of occupation, the living room was used as a theater. This summer, in association with the New Mexico Museum of Art, Baumann's marionettes will come home for a visit. The Gustave Baumann House is a model for successful building conservation and rehabilitation. We hope you will help us to complete the work we started.
