A lot of you have asked for recommendations on specific books about Islam. Since I wouldn't be able to recommend any that I haven't read (particularly ones on 'how to pray' etc, as I was taught by a teacher) and don't believe in dispensing advice about things that one isn't clued-up on, I figured I'd just show you a couple of books from my bookshelf. Do share your thoughts!

The Hoojab style is shown here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnyvyuBBAjA. As explained in that video, it's possible to pin under the chin - which is what I did - and then twist the ends around rather than drape them as shown in that video. The flowery scarf was just wrapped as explained in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBHnA2MGFOM

  • @marauder13 your novel sounds interesting, i'A, hope to buy a copy one day!

  • three cups of tea by greg mortenson is a good casual read! its about a guy who was found on k2 and nurse back to health in a village in pakistan, he was struck by the kindness of the people, and of the kids determination to study in their poor conditions so he promised to build them a school. Since Im an american girl, another book i enjoyed reading was The Muslim Next Door by Sumbul Ali-Karamali...but its more of a pre-islam book and i read it before i became muslim so..lol im not much help!

  • @BeautyIridescent Sounds good. Doesn't matter if you read it before you became Muslim - it's still a book worth recommending I'm sure :o)

  • salaam sis read this book called ar raheeq almuqtoom (the sealed nector) its the biography of Muhammad (PBUH) its beautiful

  • Ok insha'allah this will work with the correct spelling, i've tried 3 times previously but it did not work...arghhh

Ok you should totally read 'the holy woman' by qaisra shahraz

its is a fab read, it involves islam and how a pakistani woman is forced into being what they call a 'shahzadi ibadaat', it is where you have to devote your life in islam, its a traditional thing where a shahzadi ibadaat cannot marry. It centers on islam but half of it is about tradition. It's a great story =)

  • It was interesetinnnnnngg!! =D

  • i love you, your awesome. mashallah yu have inspired me to keep reading

  • :-)

  • Assalamalaikum Amenakin I was wondering if you could please list the book and the authors so I can go out and hopefully read them all. IA

  • @BeautyIridescent I read 'three cups of tea' as well and was very impressed by the work of Mr.Greg in Pakistan. being a Pakistani myself I know the conditions over there and I was highly inspired by him. But recently I watched CBS's 60 minute's documentary on him. Very disturbing and disappointing. But then I thought that at least he is doing some work, unlike other NGOs and the government who have totally ignored those areas

  • A streetcar named desire is actually really good I love all of Tennese Williams books. You have a really good taste in books I love most of the ones you showed - especially Sylvia Plath.
