The farmworkers who prepare and harvest the food for your table live in caves, in boxes, in Pepsi Trailers. These atrocious conditions are right next door to some of the most expensive homes in North San Diego and Monterey Counties, California. This video footage documents the actual conditions in 1985. This was prepared by staff of California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA). This video sat in my garage for over twenty years before I transferred it to digital, so the quality is not good. While we know the quality of the video has deteriorated in 25 years, the more important question is whether the quality of working and living conditions has improved at all. Go to:
www.crla.org
for more information on current conditions and issues for farmworkers.
