Lyrics :
Guess who died, last night
In grey stockings, in all might
It was no loss
The only God of mine
He fell down, just to drown
In a sea of delight
To tame champagne
And creatures of the night
As the water took him over
Filled his lungs inside out
I sold his gold
For flowers and rice
Speaking fire, he would hire
Pawns and peasants just like me
To feed upon the conquered ones
But now we are free

  • I'm more of a fan of heavier music, but sometimes stuff like this just widens my spectrum and makes me see the beauty in music as a whole. Wonderful song!

  • This is awesome

  • ive really begun to love this type of serene music. it's so beautiful.

  • I could be wrong, but I think this song is about someone losing their faith. "Guess who died... The only god of mine" seems almost playfully irreverent. "Speaking fire he would hire pawns and peasants just like me to feed upon the conquered ones. But now we are free" is pretty straight forward to me. I don't really understand what the metaphors of drowning, taming champagne, or selling his "gold" for flowers and rice could mean. I have some ideas. Thoughts or other opinions? Beautiful song.

  • such a pure tone to her voice

  • I won't sit here and tell you what everyone who has heard this song knows, but I will say that in the past few weeks I've been listening almost primarily to folk songs and that it seems like now it's just natural to think that Agnes Obel is one of the greatest folk singer/pianist that I know.

  • i began to cry the first time i heard this... Its just to beautiful! <3

  • i love agnes obel - this is pure talent and this is wonderful!
