An intelligent home automation system incorporating a daisy-chained array of sensors, relays, solenoids and other I/O devices for use either commercially or as an educational tool to teach the usage of the .NET Micro Framework in an intuitive and practical way. The system will incorporate a main control unit with USB connectivity for source code deployment. Each I/O module will connect to the serial bus daisy-chain and will include a dedicated class file exposing all relevant properties and methods. A touch-screen interface will be mounted on the control box, providing user control over available features. The control box will contain a Bluetooth module designed for communication with handheld devices. Many of the features of the system will be able to be monitored and modified by software on a PDA. A GSM module will be used to send SMS messages to mobile phones to notify the property owner of certain events being triggered on the system. The system will read from and write to a web service periodically, and change settings on the system accordingly. This can be used for remote administration by the property owner directly, or as a monitoring service offered by a third party.
