(2008-9-7) This improvisation was done on a Quiet Bear F# flute made of Western cedar, which is light as a feather and has a wonderful aroma. (It's also a sacred wood.) This was actually a kit that I finished - the sound-producing aparatus was already made by Quiet Bear (the very talented Dwight Lind), and all the holes were drilled, so all I had to do was shape the bore and the block with a hand planer, wood rasp, and sandpaper and then apply a finish of 4 coats of shellac. This simple little flute has a very special sound that I'm rather fond of. Give it a listen!

  • Just beautyful!! Please, answer me something... I live in south america and now I received a Native Americn Flute in F# (a KK flute). I listen to this song and is really beautiful. I want to know if this song is improvised or is an existing song already. The idea with this flutes is improvise the music? Thank you and thanx for sharing!

  • @aguacun Thx for such a wonderful comment! A lot of people seem to connect with this tune, which is 100% improvised. Sometimes these things just happen. That's why I take a camera & tripod with me when I go out to play my flute in a tunnel, etc. That way, I can capture these moments. I'm very grateful that my Muse hover over me at such times. You are correct that the main purpose of the Native American flute is to play your own songs from your own heart, so please do that with your KK! ~ Peace

  • I've watched many of your NAF videos and I'm extremely impressed! I genuinely appreciate your playing abilities, your teaching abilities, and especially your videos about the differences and similarities between different NAFs and their makers. I've played other instruments from the time I was 5 years old, but I just bought my first NAF from the High Spirits website - a Golden Eagle in F#. (You've also helped me narrow down other flutes from other makers I want to own in the future.) Thanks!

  • @tambriz1972 Wow - you've said so much that "thank you" seems a grossly inadequate response, to put it mildly! I will say it regardless: THANK YOU! The golden Eagle is a sumptuous flute that will make you very happy by drawing forth much good music. Good luck as you begin your flute journey. It is an endlessly enjoyable experience. Peace ~ Bruce

  • ugh im so jelous now, a friend tried to teach me to twrill my sound and I cant do it for the life of me. still deciding if I want an E or a F, I know the E is for more experienced players due too the bigger holes but I have pretty big pads so I dont think it will matter. what do you think? and great music as always

  • Thanks for your nice comment! I'd say start off with an F# & take it from there. CAUTION: Once bitten by the flute bug, you may find yourself overtaken by an uncontrollable urge to buy flutes in many different keys & by many makers... you've been warned... hehe! As for trilling or doing flutter tongue effects: everyone's abilities in these areas are different. You'll find there are things you can & can't do. Don't sweat it; what matters is that you'll still have your own voice on the flute.

  • I really love this video. I love this type of music, but i do think this song should be played more fluently and not like staccato notes. I think they should flow into the other notes. At the end it was like this. That was my favorite part of the whole entire song. Thanks for uploading this song is awesome. :D

  • Just awesome.

  • @piriajeoshi Thank you!!!!!!

  • First, I want to thank you for sharing your work on this site. I have been playing for a few years now and watched many viedos while learning this instrument. Your teaching and playing abilities, I found, to be the best ones around and I must say that you play with the sound very well. Thank you again. Best of luck.
