These scat voices always make me laugh, so thought I'd share it with some bebop improv! (Excuse some of the sloppy playing please!)

  • I'm trying to decide between the RD-300NX and the RD-700NX. What are the main differences between the two, and is it really worth paying the extra $900. O, and where did you learn to play piano like that!?! You're touch is really nice! I've been playing piano for 12 years and would love to know what books/courses you've found helpful. Keep it up!

  • @JonathanWinston1 The main differences, are probably the touch of the keys and sounds. The touch of the 700 really is superior to the 300. On the 300, you feel like you're on a keyboard. However it probably doesn't have the key ware issue that the 700 seems to have. You'd get only one SN piano and EP apposed to 3, the 700 sometimes suffers from 'note cut' problems, so I guess the 300 may be even worse? The more faders/knobs help workflow, and the balanced outputs are great. It's a hard one..

  • @JonathanWinston1 I don't know if it's WORTH the extra amount, but Im certainly glad I didn't get the 300 put it that way! You probably wouldn't be sorry. Thanks for the comments on my playing! :) I learnt to play like that, by doing 'real life' stuff, I played at a jazz club every week for over a year which really helped, I never did any courses or reading, I literally just play what I hear, and have been doing it so long I've gotten better - So all i can suggest is just do it! :) Thanks again!

  • @jamez123123 Thanks for your insight. So in a few of your videos I see multiple pianos, and I was wondering if the Roland was your latest addition, ans/or how it compared to your other ones. Also, do you have any favorite jazz musicians or artists who have inspired your playing?

  • @JonathanWinston1 You're most welcome! - The other big one you see is just a MIDI controller (no built in sounds) used for controlling the mac. The Roland's my first proper professional stage piano... I think it's more reliable than using a controller with mainstage, and probably better piano sounds, although a keyboard like the NX is never going to be as customisable as mainstage! Jazz wise, I really like Oscar Peterson and Duke Ellington's styles. The more I listen to, the more I want to play!

  • Brilliant - Glad to hear you back :)

  • @VinnieSutra Nice to be back ;) - Hopefully I'll have chance for a few proper ones over the holidays!

  • Nice! I found you when you did "The Trombone" video, and I'm glad I subscribed you after that, this is sweet!

  • @gabeplayspiano If you click the Menu button, then go down to 'touch' or 'key control' (Can't remember off the top of my head what it says) and you have presets from very light to very heavy, or you can set it to recognise how you play, and it'll register that. I've always used the default setting, as it seems very realistic like a piano. Where as most other keyboards I use, I find myself having to change it to the most dynamic setting!

  • @jamez123123 Yeah I havent had that issue yet, but I got mine in early september. I was told its possible to change the touch according to your liking. have you figured out how to do that?
