Hi , folks ,

For years I've had the idea about building sucha lure on my mind , .........now after having seen an American website promoting similar topwater lures recently , I finally gave it a try .

Just for fun ,........ as such a "primitive" lure can't substitute a "real" crankbait ,....... in terms of catching fish it probably would , but in terms of rigidity certainly not , ........first striking European pike might shred it to pieces(but won't come off due to the internal thru-wire harness) , on perch it might last a bit longer .

But with sucha lure one won't have to worry too much casting nearby obstacles and snags , it only takes a bit more than 15 minutes to build with sufficient tools and material at hand , once one's gets the hang of it .

The cost is not much more than for wire , hooks and splitrings , ...........losses won't hurt(also because it's so ugly , LOL) ! good luck , 61diemai

  • Thanks for your interest , ..but I'm too short of time for any instructional vids these days .

Check out this link , some pics to be seen in there , that might help you out , .......it's not difficult at all to jam these together : Tried it , links don't work in here , gonna send a PM .

You might have to register to view , dunno for sure , .....but if you're interested in luremaking , this site is THE PLACE for you ! Good luck , 61diemai

  • For the soft drink bottle cap how did you shape it

  • @dbboythe

That's what use the carpet knife for , carefully cut it down under an angle like shown , BUT watch for your fingers .

Drill three little holes aligned throug bottom of cap , ...the top one for the woodscrew and two to pass through the two shanks of the "U"-shaped line tie eye , ...making the eye this way helps the lip to sit more stable , ........remember , that it's just an "easy-made" lure , not build to last for a long time , but won't hurt , if lost . Good luck , 61diemai

  • Hey what supplies and tools do you need please reply

  • @dbboythe

Materials : stainless steel welding wire 1.0mm , artifical wine bottle cork , softdrink bottle cap , splitrings , hooks , decal eyes , (optional) clear laquer , lead shot for ballast , 1 small brass woodscrew , two component epoxy glue , .....maybe paint ?

Tools : fine grade handsaw(optional "Dremel" with cutting discs) , carpet knife , drill , drill bits(to embed ballast lead shots) , vise , a smaller nail , pliers , sidecutters , brush .

    good luck , 61diemai

  • This looks really nice! :) Just make some tail at the end and it should be killer lure :D

  • @Ovhh13

Thanks a lot , .......that grub tail really is another option , ...thanks for pointing out ! Tight lines , diemai

  • hello there......i`d like to have a go at making some of these lures but i`m not too sure about the through body, wire harness you talked about. Any chance you could do another video showing this ???

    I`ve got this in my favourites....excellent !!!

  • @61diemai

I actually made two by my self and it went out pretty good. i tried it and it worked great. But mines ar like poppers ;) with jig tail ;) Give your contacts and i sent the pics to you. ;)

  • @dbboythe

Just cut off that angled piece from a plastic screw-on soft drink bottle cap with a sharp carpet knife(some also call it "Stanley"-knife) , .......after some practice and a few rejects you'll get fine with this !
