From Galileo and the Heliocentric model of the Solar System to James Hansen and climate research, observations of the planet Venus throughout history have given us the perspective we need to understand our own place in the universe. Yet with nearly two decades since the last U.S. mission there, our sister planet has received little attention in recent years. Return to Venus provides a look back at the history of Venus exploration, how human perceptions of the planet have changed through time, and inspires us think about what secrets we have yet to reveal from our inhospitable and enigmatic neighbor.

Interviews with Dr. Cherilynn Morrow and Tatiana Loboda

  • @FionaTheFox "We seem to beat around the bush, whereas Russia gets straight to the point."

Old post, but I just wanted to write a Russian (Soviet) saying - "Don't let 'could be better' get in they way of 'is sufficient'." ^^

  • McDonalds wants to explore the possibilities of frying burgers without having to pay the electric bill, this is why Venus is so interesting.

  • wtf would be the point in returning to Venus, it was a waste of money to do it once, now its known to be totally useless a return??? I hope I'm not paying for this!

  • @orinocojones

Well it would be a good plan, but there is one major obstacle: there is no water on Venus. ALL bacterial life on Earth use water for metabolism. It would be waste of time and money send bacterial life to Venus without preliminary terraforming steps: sunshade and water import from asteroid's belt. There is really good and detailed article written by Paul Birch in 80th - "Terraforming Venus"

  • Do you suppose there are winds on Venus? I wonder what the boiling point of water is at 50 atmospheric pressure.

  • What was with the dark lighting and small type? And Tatiana Loboda was difficult to hear.

  • @gulfland given its a series of religious apologetics, i disliked each one.

  • Venus is hell.

  • @FionaTheFox I think when it comes to scientific ventures, it is difficult to judge whose contribution is better. I am Russian and your statement was nice to read, however, when comparing Russian (Soviet and post-Soviet) contributions to space exploration and USA contributions, it would be very difficult to say who is "cooler".
