The live acoustic demo for "Midwestern Stylings", a b-side from the Worship and Tribute sessions. Off of the Fadeaway Records Sampler.

lyrics:

Demerol castaway
Codeine frequent
Soma holiday
If I was a morgue, no one would die
This atonal score
And your rhytmic dancing on the dance floor
I'm dying the death of a madman for..

Standard procedure
I serve no use for you
God's littlest creature
You're my..

You witness my bail and chain
That pushes weight like a cancer
And be the count that parted mine
Handicap that pushes landmass between lovers
I dabble in the business of...

Standard procedure
I serve no use for you
God's littlest creature
You're my new muse

When mind tricks the body
Body thinks the body's crazy
My mind tricks my body
Body thinks my mind is...

So best of luck to you
And a burning barge to float you through
Lost in you for days
Enjoy the distance as we gaze

One time, didn't we say one day?
Maybe not
Did we say one day?

Standard procedure
I serve no use for you
God's littlest creature
You're my...

Standard procedure
I serve no use for you
God's littlest creature

  • @shootdashit for sure. The title itself in part represents gratitude to those who came before them, they've always paid tribute in some way to the bands that influenced them the most; Costello, Bad Brains, Zappa etc.

  • @ddevileatsugar1 "under the pink." "boys for pele" is also great. some songs fit pop format, but many swell and then really pay off at the end. darrell is a big fan and asked me about my tori shirt when i saw them in ny. at another show on the "W&T" tour, i asked him about the "tribute" he does to tori on "the gillette..." when he repeats her very subtle, "no dutch" from tori's "not the red baron." his eyes got wide, n' he said, "i can't believe you got that." "worship" has many lyrical gems.

  • @shootdashit totally respect that. If you dig somewhat minimalist, confessional music, I'd totally recommend Mansions, especially the album Dig Up The Dead. I don't know Tori Amos at all, what's good to start out on?

  • @ddevileatsugar1 i understand bands cut early versions to get an idea of what it sounds like and where to go with it. songs grow. however, i enjoy the intimacy of this one too much and have been listening to it for over a decade, so i'm partial to it. it sounds like a confession rather than an organized expression amongst a loud band, like the hidden track from EYEWTKAS. i want less there so i can hear more. some songs are better served that way. like early tori amos pieces.

  • @shootdashit that was a pre-pro demo for W&T, is why. Its whole purpose is to just give the producer an idea of what he's working with, so ideally, you're giving the most stripped down, mechanical version of the song. I agree that this version is a lot better, but I wouldn't write off the full band version entirely - watch some videos of them performing it.

  • This song brings back the best of memories. Meeting Daryl is on my bucket list.

  • @wewillbelegends i think the lo-fi recording really helps to make this version what it is... it's perfect.

  • best ending to any song ever! GJ 4evr

  • @wewillbelegends actually this sucks...
