In this tutorial I will walk you through the necessary steps to create your own custom avatar using Adobe Photoshop CS4. While these sort of avatars are popular in gaming communities such as GameBattles, the same technique can be applied to any forum community that allows avatar use.

  • how do u get the radial gradient for cs5?

  • @cardinalbo1z select the gradient tool from the tool bar, once selected, there should be several options on the above tool bar, the circular looking gradient is the radial gradient.

  • this is fucking pissing me off.. everytime i put down the hexagonal pattern and then try to do the gradient thing it doesnt work.. and the ctrl thing on the layer isnt working either..

  • @xXcleanyoleanXx You have to make sure the hexagonal pattern is transparent through the pattern itself, otherwise any selection will be treated as if the layer is entirely filled making a marquee selection around the whole document.

  • @sublogical how do you make the pattern transparent through the pattern itself?

  • @SiiCSniP3z Try using a layer mask instead with gradient, kind of like the same step I used to reflect the "S", the pattern is transparent, in the tutorial it's transparent.
