Great steel guitar playing by Bill Johnson, great song from Buddy Mize and the usual great performance by Marty. This went to number 3 in the Country charts and stayed in the chart for 18 weeks.

  • Is this clip from a t.v. show that Marty hosted?

  • @TheRobric01

It's from 'The Best Of The Marty Robbins TV Show' 1968/69.

  • I don't get tired of listening to this one. I think Marty had one of the best singing voices ever to come out of country music, up there with Ray Price and Jim Reeves. The pedal steel playing by Bill Johnson is superb. Great, real, country music.

  • Just found this post - many thanks for putting it up! This is one of the best steel backing tracks there is in my opinion! :-)

  • Love this song. My dad told me it was the number one country song when I was born (March 28, 1961) So, my parents named me Marty after Marty Robbins. Needless to say, I to became a singer and musician. Kind of ironic I know. Funny thing is, my dads name is Ronnie, which is the name of Marty's son of course. I always loved the steel work in this song, very good! I learned to play the steel also, but not near that good! This was true country music! RIP Marty Robbins. We truely miss you!

  • When I think about all the rubbish preached and recommended about this device and that one between the pedal steel and the amp, I listen to this and would announce to all, in the terms of Marty: "That was great!" because they were great and did not need a bunch of electronic tripe to get it right.. The balance was perfect, a perfect example; there are no short-cuts. They were musicians, not electronic magicians. Take note of what is close to perfection.

  • as usual, Marty Robbins just singing naturally and doing his thing --- thanks for sharing

  • wow ... lead guitar player humpin' the bass lines .. jus too cool ..

  • I love how it looks like Marty's having a ball and not afraid to show it. Awesome steel work. Love the bubbly piano fills at the head of the second verse
