Carphone Warehouse Eyeopeners - http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/
Google maps voice navigation has now launched in UK on all Android mobiles. The service offers free turn by turn navigation. This video shows how to activate the voice enabled satnav on the HTC Desire.
The software will be available on all Android mobiles running on versions later than Android 1.6, which means a vast number of smart-phones are supported.
All the user has to do is ask for directions, using the voice search facility on the handset and then will find the word 'Navigate' appear on the screen. Once the user accepts this, the entire route is downloaded so that a signal or a data reception is not needed throughout the journey.
In terms of features the software enables you to search for "Restaurant" and be shown all the nearest restaurants and also you can click a contact in your address book and if the details are correct it will navigate to their home. Additionally, you can search by voice which means you don't have to type in what your looking for which is a great service for when driving.
Naturally, Google Maps Navigation integrates with street-view to give you an even more precise insight into your route. It also features a traffic indicator to show you how busy the road you're travelling on is. For more info visit Carphone Warehouse Eyeopeners @ http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/

  • @bidders77 you have to have one if you have an htc desire anway (or any other smartphone from verizon)

  • not free as you have to pay for an internet package for it to work!!!

  • @T3kTro All that run on 2.1 or higher. So that means definately the Xperia X10 Mini out, and many other phones.

  • @6ford As webcams go - it's a pretty one. ;o)

Really I'm not a fanboy either way - but aside from the phone looking absolutely incredible (not to everyone's taste - but I love it) the iPhone 4 really isn't all that.

It's got a good chance of giving *real* mobile video-calling the kick start it needed nearly 10 years ago when it was first available though.

I like it, but it's not for the win. ;o)

  • Free SatNav is a killer feature for Android. Im loving my Nexus One atm

  • iphone4 ftw.

  • aweful voice and way to complicated to install for a regular user

  • But why does the voice say b6204 and the map show b6205?

  • Works on almost any android phone if not all.

  • excellent.

though mine alreday came with that feature.

unless i installed it without realising, lol.
