While hardly a jazz musician, Dan Hill played an afternoon set at the Beaches International Jazz Festival to a happy if not rain-dampened crowd.
This was the final song of his performance, which also included extensive readings from his new book.
If the audience laughter in this very serious song about the death of his father seems inappropriate, it's because when he sang "why when it rains, does it always pour?" in the first chorus, the skies opened and the rain went from a mist to a downpour right on cue.
