Schmidt's voice was big enough for lyric roles on stage and this is not amplified at Carn. Hall with a capacity of 2,800 people, bigger then many houses in Europe. He sang Boheme in opera, full and complete on stage in Europe. Wonderful live recording, glad the this brdcst was recorded at least.

Absolutely glorious. The only other unsurpassable rendition of this aria is by the Great Fritz, and while Fritz has the more powerful voice, his recordings were made 30-40 years later, with much better technology. Schmidt's almost casual ease at producing gorgeous tones will remain unsurpassed.

You must bracket Peter Anders with Tauber and Schmidt. Those three are the supreme Strauss tenors.

He was wonderful and had that great top besides all the fine singing. Tragic end for him and I feel bad every time I hear him.

The music from this piece was also used in the 1938 'Great Waltz' film with soprano Miliza Korjus where it was in the song 'I'm in love with Vienna'. Schmidt and Tauber were the best tenor voices for Strauss' operettas.

This is usually sung by a bass-baritone. Peter Dawson being. probably, the best known. Nevertheless a well sung song. Bravo!
