This is the better ending of the film Dodgeball (2004). Clearly this should have been the real ending.

  • I saw this ending on the DVD and heard the director's comments about it, and I still don't know how he can justify it. This was intended as a broad, commercial comedy, and this ending felt more like a filmmaker attempting to cram in a left-field, darker ending rather than a finale true to the spirit of the film as a whole. It is one thing for Bergman or Coppola to include a dark ending, but when this guy suddenly has pretensions to art you have to thank the producers for showing common sense.

  • Maybe this sour ending would have been memorable.. Instead, to make it memorable, they had to put a fat Ben Stiller to say "fuckin Chuck Norris", which was hilarious even though his comment was true: cinema audiences mostly can't handle complexity.. That was the reason they had to change the ending.

  • @agmor1 I agree. A comedy is a comedy which is a comedy. There's nothing dark about the movie, and this ending is wayyyy too serious for such a light-hearted, funny comedy. The executives' meddling made the ending more in sync with the spirit of the movie than the what actual directors had in mind. Irony much?

  • @agmor1 I haven't heard the director's comments on this. I'd always assumed that it was more of a "Wouldn't this have been funny?" alternative for a DVD feature, that someone had thought up way after production. If this was acually considered for the theatrical release then you're right; common sense prevailed.

  • @agmor1 ya guess i see your point, wow a youtube conversation that didn't end in immature name calling, this is a first.

  • @joespgriffin I completely agree. Watching it immediately after the film is an hilarious experience.

I think it works really well as a special feature. As a genuine ending, no. It's a joke that's part of the film, and it's not funny unless you know the real thing.

  • @agmor1 i think this is actually a funnier ending though, the heroic music playing and the slow mo is just brilliant

  • This is an awful ending. No closure. its like the film just ends there dead. Glad they changed it

  • I could definitely see giving the movie and unhappy ending, but this is awful - no closure at all.

  • @JZ2001JC

It didnt ended that way in the original one. Actually they balanced each other. Joe lose the game but then remember when some guys said Steve the Pirate "Go to treasure isalnd!" mocking him?

Well he actually went to a casino called treasure island and won there so he got a lot of money for him and joe. But I dont know what happened to the gym in the original ending.

  • @XehanortNobody. Yeah this ending I didnt mind the Global Gym winning but it was too rushed with no closure after the Championship Game ended here. Maybe have a four Minute review afterwards of what happens as a result....Like showing the Average Joe's guys locked outside there gym since they lost, and Global Gym becoming a big success.

  • That ending sucked
