Hoof Trimming. How to correct and back up a flared or elongated toe. This video shows how to do corrective trimming to grow out a new healthy hoof. Many people think a long toe on a horse is natural. In reality the toe has slowly over time stretched forward. A horse with too long a toe, cannot move naturally. It's like you trying to run in clown shoes.

  • you trim the toes with your nippers but if you were to do it with a rasp would you rasp at a 45degree angle from the bottom and then roll it of like a mustang roll?

  • @pruephepip If that's all you got, then that's fine. I don't always use nippers but she had a lot of toe to take off. I've even used a saw, when a horse couldn't pick up it's feet, and I had to cut off about 4 inches of hoof for her to even take a step. She sure was patient, just let me kneel under her and saw away.

  • Great vid.

  • Thanks so much for the kind words.

  • Thanks so much for the good words. I wish I had someone to show me some things too, cause I've made my fair share of mistakes, and will probably make a few more. Seems line learning to read the hoof, Is like learning to read and write a foreign language..

  • Thank you sooo much. Your ideas make alot of sense. Last spring a new farrier butchered my horse's feet--which threw her into a founder--I didn't know much about this, so for months I've been doing research. With your help--keeping it natural & letting them have something to stand on (not pretty, but right) she's much imporved. So many farriers are still operating the "old" way. I appreciate so much you posted your common sense. Keep posting-God bless.

  • Less yapping and more trimming...
