1st attempt at swirl painting a les paul. Steps: remove neck and all hardware from the body. sand paint away to just wood. prime. paint background coat. mount body to a piece of wood. fill 32gal trash can with a bit over 1cup of borax. add Humbrol enamel paint and stir. slowly dip guitar body. add clear coat. reassemble....feel free to ask questions...

  • Could you use glow in the dark paint?

  • arent you suppose to sand it down first?

  • I think it would have come out better if you didn't pull it out so quickly D:

  • looks like my jerry garcia necktie :)

  • Did you use any paint removers for the original paint? Or did you just sand it down?

  • what kind of paint is??

  • if you don't like how it turns out the 1st time, can you re-do it, or do you have to sand it and try again?

  • That is awesome. I want you guys to paint my guitar lol

  • @AwesomeFunnyFilms

    borax = sodium tetraborate

    as far as i know it reduces the surface tension of water (and it's not to healthy, in the EU it's now illegal to buy it as a private person)

    it depends on the paints you use if it's needed

    tried humbrol enamel without borax and it didn't work at all (the paint does not disperse and just drowns after a while if you keep pouring)

    started to experiment with marble paints now, they don't need borax

  • What kind of clear coat is best for putting over this kind of a paint job?
