PJ INTERVIEW WITH GHOSTWRITER FOR AUTOBIOGRAPHY. THIS IS FROM A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT GHOSTWRITERS,THIS IS PJ'S ON SCREEN CONTRIBUTION. FILMED IN 1997 THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY HAS YET TO BE PUBLISHED
Rosemary Kingsland spoke with me regarding this PJ Proby biography and I sent her video clips, radio recordings and press cuttings from 1990 when PJP was working with me on the Stage of Fools and 'Thanks' CD project. Some months later she called me to say that when PJP saw the chapter on that period he went wild, ripped all the pages into pieces and shouted at her 'This never happened!' It was however a matter of recorded fact. The publishers insisted PJ sign each page top and bottom = No Book.
Here he describes a pitifully austere existence where (except for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter) between ages 9 and 18 he was confined to the campus of San Marcos Military Academy, 50 miles from Houston. In other interviews he describes growing up with Elvis from age 13, running interference for his sister who he said was dating Tommy Sands and Elvis at the same time, and spending his summers at age 14-17 singing with Tommy Sands in Houston bars, with Col. Tom Parker as their manager.
The last time I checked youtube was a public forum, not a private PJ Proby fan club meeting. Proby may have been a great singer but what does this video have to do with singing? The comment by kendall156 that I read was about Proby's stories, which seem to change with the weather. If you don't believe it watch the other interviews on youtube. Anyone else who fabricates history would be criticised. Does Proby still think he should be "exempt from......"?
I dont know what your problem is kendall, but why so much of a bad attitude to PJ on so many PJ clips on youtube , If you dont like the the greatest singer thats ever lived then...CLEAR OFF !!!
Are you in charge here? Proby is a singer, right? I like his 60's hits but I have no use for an arrogant Yank or anyone else who spins yarns and expects us to hang on his every word. He must think we have never read a book, watched TV, or logged on to the internet. Putting interviews on youtube lets the world hear his stories but you evidently feel we shouldn't be allowed to point out the fallacies in them. Is he some kind of sacred cow?
In 1997 he was nearing the age of 60 and his Legend album was brilliant. His weight was within a normal range and he was still a very dashing figure on stage. He would be today as well if he would lose a good bit of excess weight. In pictures of recent shows, his weight seems to have gone up drastically since summer of last year. Entertainment reviewers have mentioned his weight and its obvious effect on his vocal performance and stamina. It's quite sad to see this happen.
