  • jarvis37th,

Dex didn't waste notes. He had a perfect sense of harmonics. As a lifelong Dexter wannabe, I notice that I waste notes running up to the note I'm trying to get to. But Dex knew exactly where he wanted to go and went there without a lot of fanfare or having to running up to the note he wanted to get to. There's very little filler in his playing. He's concise, so he doesn't have to play tons of 16ths to get where he's going. He plays just the right note, at just the right time.

  • IBeAMusician,

You mean, Coltrane sounded like Dex. Dexter Gordon was the father of the modern tenor saxophone. If Adolph Sax was around he would have said, "Now that's what my ax is suppose to sound like."

  • I sure miss Dex, and Jackie, and Trane, and . . .

  • Sounds like Coltrane at 2:35

  • one of the best versions of the song

  • @cagontuputamadre I love when he does that. Like when he Mr. P.C.'s in Blue Bossa.

  • The best version of the head ever

  • very smooth Brother dexter

  • This is my favorite one.

  • so this is where gang starr got the sample for "words I manifest"
