@samuelbhatch If everyone has equal access to food (as they would in the model I suggested), then how is bribery with food an incentive for anything? Could I bribe you with apples if you have your own orchard? Greed is not some irrational and mysterious behavior that can't go away. If you want to know about it, read the peer review sciences in human behavior and not old war stories.

You think that citizens buying and selling things causes this much destruction? People didn't go to the store and say 'I think I'll buy missiles, corporate bailouts, Monsanto, subprime mortgages and GM'. The government did! Without an all powerful federal government, there would be no monopolies, and prices would fall. We need to empower local governments to address local problems.

Health care would be affordable, too. (why doesn't Wal-Mart sell antibiotics?... the FDA.)

If you consume food in a day, there is something to be bribed with. Check out the book 'I was an NKVD spy'. In the former USSR, people could be bribed with food.

There is no way you can keep people from being greedy. Even in WWII, which some people point to, it was a temporary lack of greed overcome by fear, and it didn't last. There is no way to eliminate human greed - as such, pursuit of one's self interest in a constructive way - capitalism - is the only useful system of governance.

A socialist America? I guess Americans are brainwashed enough and they really think that they are happy in their capitalism. But once people can open their eyes and get awaken, this ultra-strong capitalism country can easily turn into a socialist union, which will work for to make world better, not for turning world into a hell as they are doing it now.
