Its been written many times, but worth repeating again, that the roots of Everton
Football Club run deep into the bed-rock of the city of its birth. In fact, the
first club of Merseyside boasts an unrivalled history of 106 seasons in the top
flight of English football and not surprisingly has woven a golden thread through
the evolution of the game.
Gwladys Streets Hall of Fame was designed to embrace this unparalleled heritage and
the men who made it. Conceived by David France in 1996 as a means of paying tribute
to the men who have made real contributions to the clubs welfare since the days of
St Domingo in Stanley Park, today the Hall of Fame is a royal blue institution.
This video uses pen-pictures and caricatures to provide a lasting tribute to the 126
members, all of whom were elected by the fans via postal and cyber ballots, and was
produced as a lasting souvenir for those fortunate to have attended the thirteenth
and final Hall of Fame dinner in 2009. These annual events, often called the
Nuremberg Rallies of Football, have become as famous as many of the men they
celebrate and have provided previously unheard of opportunities for Everton fans to
interact with their heroes and to jointly revel in all things blue.
The 24-minute video was produced in association with Tabacula, the Liverpool-based
film-makers.
