Dance Educators Training Institute 2007

We believe that outstanding teaching takes place when educators are passionate and engaged in their own artistic growth!

With support from the Dana Foundation. The William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund, and the Baltimore County Public School System, ClancyWorks Dance Company founded the Dance Educators Training Institute - a week-long, professional development intensive for artists teaching dance.

Participants include choreographers, performers, teaching artists, educators, and administrators from various backgrounds and degrees of experience in the arts.

The Institute is designed to enable participants to delve deeper into their artistic pursuits and to enhance their pedagogical techniques in a challenging and supportive environment.

Each day begins with a dance class and is followed by workshops with professional artists, educators and administrators.

Some of last year's workshops included:
Partnering as a Pedagogical Metaphor;
Connecting Dance to an Academic Curriculum;
Building a Healthy Dancer - Nutrition, Physics, Somatics in the Classroom;
Choreography with the Brain in Mind;
Writing on Dance & Dance Appreciation;
Working with Popular Culture to Engage Students;
And, workshops in choreography, improvisation and creating site-specific work.

In support of integrating technology into the classroom and to document our learning, participants share their experiences through the institute's blog.

And at the end of the week, participants create a final project to share what they've learned through the Dance Educators Training Institute.
