The health and safety of the Gulf of Mexico and its fish populations is in danger from unsustainable fish farming but you can help protect it. The simple truth is that if left unchecked, fish farming or aquaculture is risky business. With the Gulf Fishery Management Council's aquaculture plan under review right now, we have a chance to demand that strong, national environmental and economic safeguards are in place that protect marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

  • It seems that some conservancy groups are afraid of everything and anything. Fact is humans will eat. They will eat until there is nothing left. Without developing new and high yield resources, hopefully sustainable and nutritious, we will continue to deplete our planets natural resources. Regulation in this case seems to mean banning the practice.

  • It isn't unless you don't want fish treated with antibiotics and hormones like packed animals in cages in CAFOS. You want more bacteria and pollution that can put your health at risk? If so, this is the plan for you.

  • Why is this form of 'fish farming' so bad? What are the consequences and alternatives?
