I bought four Larry Bird heros sets and two Chamberlin sets for under 5 bucks on ebay including shipping, it may have been like 6 bucks but it was cheap.

The concept came from a sub-set. I think the first one was Joe Dimagio in 1993 and they pretty done another star or hall-of-famer in a ten card sub-set every year since.

Actually, the first Baseball Heroes set was a ten-card set randomly inserted into packs of 1990 Upper Deck Hi-Series. Every Upper Deck baseball product from 1990-95 had a Baseball Heroes insert. The set was moved to SP for '96 and '97. Here's the complete list.
