@merefouettard It's definitely good to get a second, objective set of professional ears on the mastering job. I do recommend getting another person to master your tracks and focusing on the mixdown for sure. However, it's a valuable skill set to know how to master your own music. Especially when you want to do a quickmaster to play your tune out at a show. This plugin is one of the most pro sounding ones on the market. The hate tirade is not warranted.

@DJVespers Definitely. I'm not talking about going back to the dynamics range back in the 80's or early 90's :P ... finding that perfect balance is the key. Getting it as loud as possible without entering the loudness where people experience ear fatigue .... I get it sooo often after just listening to 5 tracks these days.

@geostigma123 Yeah, good comment. What would be good to have is some type of standard to shoot for in mastering, where we aim for a certain balance of dynamics and loudness.

Good video! I generally EQ my master to the pink noise guide. I use reference songs but mostly to compare the finished produce. A lot of good masters are EQed to pink noise anyways. I just like it because its the flattest spectrum to humans.

I thought your video was helpful. Thanks! Mixing up source and target is understandable, not awkward. I have to think in terms of taking from the source and applying to the target. Then I'm less confused. :)

I just got Izotope Ozone and I'm new to VST plugins, music, and editing/producing, is this a good place to start? I use Pro Tools SE, and Audacity with Ozone VST's

@geostigma123 I agree, totally

@DJVespers You're right about "it won't sell or get played by DJ's" ... But there's no question about how the quality of music is ruined by the "loudness war". Why are we even following the footsteps of the industry when they're making shitty mainstream music. If enough people start using dynamics, we can turn the tide. Ear fatigue is annoying, and it's hard for me to listen to music for long periods of time with this loudness.

wow watching all the videos soon.. this is very very helpful thanks!! :)

Hey
You've probably sorted it now but for anyone else with the problem, whenever you install new vsts, in Live you need to go into "preferences" and hit "refresh" for your vst folder for new installs to show up.
Target and source mixed up, awkward.

Hey again Vespers. I have downloaded the demo of Ozone 4 for my Ableton Live 8. The install went smoothly and everything is in its correct folders but the vst doesnt seem to show up with the rest of my plugins. How did you get yours to work? I have read all over the internet that its a 32 bit/64 bit compatibility issue.
Any help would be great. I would love to try this plugin and likely buy it if I can get it to work.
