Dunkleosteus lived in the Devonian period, and tetrapods were barely evolving (think Tiktaalik).

I mean look at it like this, with a head like that... it is not built for speed, and based on its teeth and its armored head, I believe it was the kind of predictor that ate things like giant squid or prehistoric whales, but if you are slow and have no back Armour then faster more voracious predictors like a Megladon will eat it no problem and pretty much wipe it off the food chain.

Are we sure that, that is all the Armour it had? Sure the fossil evidence points to it just having Armour on it's head, but I think it is silly to think that it just had amour on its head and not on the rest of its body.
