Great explanation. He was railing against the folks who started following the men who baptized them, which ultimately divided the church. Also, to load more ammunition in to this, Paul also wrote Romans and Galatians. Romans 6:3-8 has Paul describing baptism as becoming a new creature in Christ, and Galatians 3:27 as clothing ourselves with Christ in baptism. If Paul decided to brush baptism aside so easily, then why would he write such important things about it? Good stuff, man.
