@msbunnypaws it all comes down to what your media needs are. I have one, but I also have a expansive collection of digital movies and TV series. It is nice to watch them all on the TV while I use my other computer to play games and surf the internet. The case just looks nice on the entertainment center too, no one who comes over ever guesses that it is a computer.

XMBC and Boxee are much better than the WMC for anyone who is interested in making one of these. If you notice the issues they have with web applications taking forever to load.

OK I've built many a gaming rig but even I think this hardware is kind of overkill.
Wouldn't a home theater PC be fine with a cheapy Athlon ii x2 3 GHz, 4 gig of RAM and a cheapy Radeon HD 5670 in there? I mean, all you're gonna be doing is watching HD movies. You don't need a very good system for that. Heck go with a 6670 if it's cheap enough.
