This was a 2009 english project for Black History Month. Maya Angelou was an inspiration; her tone and words express feelings like no other. Comments are welcome and appreciated.

  • This is one of my favorite poems...LOOOOOOOOOVE IT! :)

  • @ninasooz I understand where you are coming from so please don't take offense when I say I disagree. It was under that flag that so many were oppressed, but it was also under that flag that many things changed. Yes, we still do have a long way to go.

  • she is a woman that i admire. if she could come back,i'd elect her for president of the united states.

  • This speech is so powerful. I love Maya Angelou doing it. I must respectfully take issue with the presentation of the American flag, though maybe even Sojourna would have wanted it that way. Do we see that and understand it was the policies of that flag that put this amazing woman into so much hardship, really, if 10 of us had lived a life with half as much stress wouldn't 5 or 6 be dead? I am angry at that flag. Not enough has changed.

  • @kevinhagan17 hahaha!! one of the real men :)
