New iCADEMY at Jefferson State

In response to the need for a comprehensive program to address workforce development in St. Clair County, business and community leaders have come together to break ground for St. Clair Countys "I"cademy program adjacent to Jefferson State Community College in Pell City.

The "I"cademy program will be a unique partnership between the St. Clair County and Pell City School Systems, the St. Clair County Commission, the St. Clair Economic Development Council, Jefferson State, and private industry.

Committees were formed to address funding issues, marketing, curriculum, equipment and construction. The program will initially be based in an approx. 8,000 facility located adjacent to Jefferson States location in Pell City.

Students from St. Clair County & Pell City School Systems will have access to this program which will provide college credit for dual enrollment courses in technical areas related to manufacturing, healthcare and engineering free of charge to the students for as long as grant funding is available. This program will provide students with the necessary skills and experience to be competitive in todays workforce.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility was held on March 30, 2009. The new facility will house the welding, robotics and machining equipment. Other courses will be held in the current Jefferson State Pell City building.
