  • What we have discovered is how much more there was to their lives and the attention to hunting and gathering was secondary to their practice of religion. Modern anthropological thought process eliminates the religious aspect entirely, preferring the ancients to have been 'godless.' This is absolutely not the case. BTW, the solar observations may have been related to farming elsewhere, but the Inyo area is not farmable. The area is desert and all but sterile.

  • Possibly, but the dolomite marble is resistant to any damage from mold making. There has been no damage from this action. It does not 'discolor' as the result and this is a false and irresponsible accusation. This is a professional technique and allows museum quality replicas. Done properly it does no harm.

  • Latex molds? Where did those come from?

  • Some years ago several molds were made of various inscriptions. These have proven to be an invaluable record. In this case, the casting revealed the existence of previously unrecorded details.

  • They remind me of the giant pre-Columbian images of the Nazca plain. Any connection?

  • All I can say is probably. The Nazca plains are a half a globe away but the creators of the Nazca work shared some very basic religious beliefs. That commonality may result in similar depictions.

  • I am Paiute and I have some interesting things about this regions in our old tales.

  • IRISH ORIGINS OF CIVILIZATION

  • There is a giant man and I believe a spider out in the Mojave desert done in the same style as the Nasca Lines interestingly enough...

  • Hunters, huh? That's what they all teach, but people have been farming since Adam and Eve, as the Bible teaches. This is supported by the find that the sun and astronomy was so important to these people.

  • I've seen too many petroglyph panels ruined by such molds. They are definitely not a sign of caring about such antiquities. They can discolor and break down the surface of the rock. Definitely something not to be encouraged.

  • My thought is that early beliefs and writings in the Americas go back thousands of years earlier than often assumed. Certainly the Inyo glyphs are half a hemisphere away from Nazca, but the carvers had centuries to get there and do the work.
