UPDATE: Rage crashes on launch now, after the October 8th patch and updated drivers.

The point of this video was to demonstrate how PC gamers are being crapped on lately. When you make a game for PC, you still have to do QA for one third of your market. Ignoring them causes backlash like this. Yes, people with nVidia cards had a much lower chance of this happening. I'm willing to bank that that was because the game was developed on workstations sporting nVidia cards.

I don't think I need to mention DRM.

@Dragonfloe Just Cause 2 cannot and will not look better on a console then it does on a PC. Considering the facts that the PC version supported several features and graphical effects that the console version did not which included increased detail. PC's have a massive edge over consoles and always will. That's a known fact. All console games are dulled down due to the systems hardware capabilities, that's why they can still play newer games such as BF3 and still look pretty good.

all the games that are made are made based on consoles and what they can handle, if a dedicated company made a PC exclusive game the graphics would be fuckin insane. dont go talking shit about consoles being better than pc's lawl

I owned a 5850 and this problem was gone with 11.10 preview 2. I mean, come on, this was like a first day glitch that got a driver patch and people are still going on about it now?

Also, PS3 has texture pop almost as bad as this video, as was intended by id. That's all they could get on the memory that it has.

Modern PCs have lots of memory and fast hard drives. And if you want to play RAGE without texture pop ins, then come round my house and play it on my 5850 or GTX 560.

Buying overpriced peripherals, wireless adapters that cost ten times what they do on a PC, paying to use Xbox LIVE, paying more for games, etc. Well, at least it does things other than gaming! Wait, no, PC gamers have access to modding resources, for gameplay tweaks and tons of user created content... and they have a wider selection of cheaper games...

Oh and this "QA" - Quality Assurance - was always non existent ever since I played Turok 2 and 3 and onwards (and that was an N64 game).

@RicochetSaw That's not how optimisation works. However, I agree with you - clearly, Carmack is able to magically change the id's direction (as he always has) just due to his prestige. He even aplogised for his lack of influence in the company. I don't even know what I have favourited, I avoid YouTube's comments much like I avoid GameSpot due to complete morons such as yourself. You probably don't know anything about Computer Science, hence why you'd whine about Carmack rather than businesses.

@FretsOfDeath666 You don't have to consistently and constantly upgrade a computer. Furthermore, those parts are extremely helpful as well. As a programmer, I make full use of my powerful computer and even wish I had faster parts. The problem with PC gaming, is that optimisation is difficult. As time passes, programmers learn the unchanging nuances of console architecture which greatly improves their products. Compare Quake 4 on 360 (a mess) with newer titles which both look and perform better.

You can never claim that the consoles matches a PC, as the power of a PC is relative, but can exceed the power of any modern console tremendously.

"PCs are dead." is a highly overestimated thing to claim. Let me tell you about MMO games, Blizzard Entertainment at large, great indie games developed by companies who cannot effort a large scale production of console discs.

@Dragonfloe I'll also be enjoying my 64 player maps on BF3 on PC because consoles have old hardware and cannot support it. Also, theoretically, all PC games can run at a solid 60 frames per second, and far higher. But on consoles, this framerate is a much rarer commodity.

@Dragonfloe Screen Space Ambient Occlusion which was first used in Crysis on PC, soft shadows and increased detail on PC version. Compatible Nvidia cards additionally support Bokeh lens effects, enhanced water simulation and stereoscopic 3-D, just a few of the things that make it look better on PC. PC's have support for a pad and keyboard/mouse input which is much better in most FPS then a pad is. For the better gaming experience, its always going to be a PC, its as simple as that.
