@pennyf9 the wood that was on the back part of the tender was used as a decoration you coould call it to make the 6 look like an old steam locomotive if you read the rest of the comments the stack on the 6 is not the orginal smokestack it was put on for a movie and then the wood was added to make the 6 look like an Old Steam Locomotive

The oldest pictures in our archives show a different headlamp, most certainly a kerosene lamp.
During its life at Argent Lumber, it gained a turbine and electric lamp.
When it arrived at the MCRR, the late Stan Mathews, partial to angled number board
head lamps, installed the current lamp.

...It burns oil. It was converted from hard fuel to oil in its 70's-80's rebuild.

"is the wood for decoration?"...what "wood" are you referring to?

@steamairman the wood in the tender.

The "wood" on the tender is actually a tool box!
The video is rather dark so much visual detail is missing.
Have a look at the MCRR website (w w w . m c r r . o r g), click on the "engines" link, then on the link to the 6, and finally on the "special pictures" link. Several pictures clearly show the tender.
