Based on my ART mission design proposal - an entry for the competition by The Planetary Society, B. Jones from London, UK had made this beautiful animation, bringing a whole new look to my design. Many thanks Jones for your work.

  • The winning proposals for Apophis competition have been annouced. My proposal could only made it to the semi-final, however this is not too bad for a start at all :)

  • me to!!!

  • Apophis was discovered by astronomers at te Kitt Peak National Observatory in June 2004. Provisionally designated 2004 MN4, it's nowadays known as 99942 Apophis.

The next near-Earth approach will happen in April 2029 and the way in which the Earth will 'disturbe' Apophis' trajectory will determine if the Near Earth Asteroid of the Aten class will impact Earth in 2036.

A simple space mission could gentle push the NEA away!

  • I have heard of this project. that NASA shall do that and i have also heard that in 2029 they are going to send out another spacecraft to going to hit Apophis right in the midle and by that the power of the impact should push Apophis of its course. they say that it will push it 1 kilometer of the course and by that it should pass Earth. thats what i have heard from NASA. but i can be wrong. i hope they will find a way to stop it.
