Shabir Ally on Let The Quran Speak explains the ancient tradition related to Prophet Abraham of sacrificing his son and the reason why Muslims follow the tradition.
There are two types of killings in the Quran, Just killing and unjust killing determined by a fatwah from the Quran and the hadeeth. Just killing like killing for food or killing invading criminals who refuse to stop the onslaught or killing a serial killer or a murderer. Unjust killing is killing peaceful animals or humans for no quranically justifiable reason (without a fatwa) from the highest islamic authority in the land.
@safbat Remembering God and how much we need him IS a just cause homie

Killing animals for human consumption makes sense.
Thou shall not kill without a just cause.
