Each year, hundreds of thousands of ER visits in upstate New York are potentially avoidable. So call your doctor first. Minor conditions like congestion, back pain and sports injuries are best treated by your doctor, or by an urgent care center if your doctor is not available.
The Monroe County Medical Society, Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield launched a community engagement campaign in the Rochester region to tackle potentially avoidable ER visits. This television public service announcement spoofs a "shocking" night in the ER in which doctors deliver emergency medical treatment to a patient with advanced stuffiness and nasal congestion.
The goal of the campaign is to direct patients to their physicians as a first preference for getting care for minor medical conditions, and to reduce potentially avoidable ER visits.
