Creatures: "Extraterrestrial Blue Moon"

NGC made an special called "Extraterrestrial" analogue to Discovery´s "Alien planet". The program shows two extraterrestrial planets and its inhabitants: "Aurelia" and "Blue Moon". In this videoclip, I focus on "Blue Moon", my favorite one. This earth sized body is a moon of a gas giant, and its atmosphere is so thick that surface pressure is three times of the earth´s sea level. Humans could not live on the Blue Moon: the high levels of oxygen push the atmosphere to the brink of spontaneous combustion during lightning storms. Carbon dioxide levels are thirty times higher than on Earth, making the air clammy and warm. Like our moon, Blue Moon is "tidally locked", meaning it keeps the same side of the moon faced towards its planet.

Creatures shown are:

SkyWhales: giant flying creatures with wingspan 10 meters wide. They feed on algae that floats in the dense atmosphere and spent their whole life floating;

Stalkers: Flying social animals that hunt in pack, preying the skywhales;

Ghost Traps: Lives beneath the pagodas trees, eating animals captured in their webs;

Giant kites: 5 meters long giant gliding creatures that feed on small animals and live over the forest canopy;

Pagoda Trees: interconnect with each other to allow them to grow more than 200 meter high. Their hollow leaves collect rainwater, since the trees are too tall to draw it from the ground;

Balloon Plants: As the name say, they float using hydrogen and release their seeds in the dense atmosphere, spreading to new locations when vasts areas are clean by the ever present fire;

Bioluminescent creatures: they live in the grounds of Blue moon. Since the pagoda trees ocuppies every inch of space and are very tall, no light at all gets the ground. It´s dark, so they have to use biological light to communicate with each other.
