Tributes to the former Leeds and Great Britain stand-off John Holmes has died from cancer at the age of 57.The Leeds-born player made his debut for the club as a 16-year-old and went on to make 625 appearances between 1968 and 1989, in which time he gained 16 winners' medals. With 1,554 points he is fourth in Leeds' all-time scoring records and was a member of their Challenge Cup-winning teams of 1977 and 1978. Holmes won 20 caps for Great Britain and played in the 1972 and 1977 World Cups. He also played seven times for England and made eight appearances for Yorkshire.
