This is a breakdown of the chord progression used by Steve Martin in the movie "The Jerk." There doesn't seem to be any sheet music or transcription from his performance so I did my best to pull the chords by listening to the song over and over and over. This is TUTORIAL #1 and I go through all the chords in the introduction, the verse and the bridge of the song. Martin does a unique turn at the end of verse one and verse two. I cover those specific turns in TUTORIAL #2. And I play the full version from start to finish without vocals in TUTORIAL #3. I hope you find this helpful. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

  • Excellent tutorial.

Like others have asked, where are parts 2 and 3?

  • @artsygala - #3 is listed in my videos as "Tonight You Belong To Me Steve Martin Chords from The Jerk" I never ended up finishing part 2 and I really hate people that do that! So I'm going to see if I can get it done tonight. Thanks for the reminder. Moved from CA to FL so I've had a few things on my mind!

  • Is their a preference in playing a concert ukulele over a soprano in this song?

    Nice Video, excellent tutorial.

  • @tylermark86 - I don't think there is a preference for this song. I prefer the concert because that's the only one I own!

  • thank you very much.. I been trying to find someone to show how to play this ukulele piece for the longest time..

  • I think it sounds better with a capo on the 3rd fret and tuning (A D F# B) Different chords 2. :)

  • Thanks. Very helpful.

  • Yes, there is life beyond YouTube and the ukulele...

I demonstrated your chord progression to our uke group and we had a real good time with this song. Thanks!
