My very first-ever foot on foreign soil was when I landed in Germany in '66.
Luckily it was so gentle I was tempted to doa stand up, but we were tactical and I would have been in the shit.
The corporal beside me had'nt got his PWC lowered for some reason and he broke his leg.
The equipment was crap back then. ."x" and "px" non-steerable prachutes, and no jump boots-- plain daft. Para coy of the italian Alpineri were with us. Jump boots, knee and elbow pads. Less injuries, of course.

Im joining the 4th battalion of the paras soon. got selection coming in 23rd this month and start my first drill night 2 days later lol. by late december or january i'll be bale to wear the maroon beret

how far do you end up being from the guy who jumped before you when u are on the ground?

you jump 1 second after the guy in front of you has jumped, both jump doors are used so it is 1/2 a second between each door and you steer the parachute "and by steer i mean pull on the liftwebs" so you are far enough from anyone in the air and the on the ground.
