Glad to see we have another softie in our midst. I did the same thing today, sadly emptied two old hanging baskets out and bumblebees flew out and there was nothing I could do as I had thrown the compost over by the fence. I will know another time though. A few weeks ago, I did actually hand feed a bumblebee with honey and water as I think it had become cold and confused, did this for nearly a week and it eventually disappeared, would like to think it did survive but who knows.

What is the basket thing the nest is under? Did you relocate it there or did the queen select that site herself? Also, what Bobbus species is the white tailed bumblebee?
