Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting and Better Get Hit are two different tunes, both in the same time signature and with similar feels. They aren't the same piece.
-
u forgot about Mike Richmond on the bass.Actually he is playing this great open solo.

@pascal62 Yeah, even as a 17-year-old kid playing with Mingus.
-
@docsax I guess anyone employed by Mingus is by definition possessed of 'The Modern Thing", or else Mingus wouldn't have had them in the band...after all, what is Mingus if not modern?
-
Dynasty was great live...Saw an unknown to me great trombonist in a jazz club Stockholm's Old Town in summer 1976. Imagine my surprise years later when the same guy appeared with Mingus Dynasty, Jimmy Knepper. He had on of the greatest album titles: "Cunningbird".

Jimmy Knepper is an unkown GIANT of a great TROMBONIST.

so they have 2 bassists? or is that a cello? or is it some weird optical illusion?

One is a 'guest' player - just there for that gig I believe

That's Mike Richmond (sitting between Aladar Pege and Billy Hart). The Mingus Dynasty actually had two bassists at that time.
