@groundctrl77 They were going to. The project got cancelled, though, and Tim Elliot, the guy who wrote the script, tinkered around with the names and plot a bit, and Disney released it a few years later as Pirates of the Caribbean. True story.

i realy could remeber when i played MI3 the first time. I waitet so long for this game, and at 2:36 i got Goose pimples all over my body! it was such a great day!.....

@jasminlaflamme Well, Gilbert took a lot of artistic freedom from Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride at the theme parks. Later, PotC was written on the basic story of MI2/MI3.
To be honest, I don't think you can compare Sparrow and Threepwood though. Guybrush doesn't *intend* to be funny, that's one of the big reasons he is, where Sparrow knows he's drunk and hilarious and takes advantage of it.
And of course, Pirates of the Caribbean doesn't have any insult sword-fights!

@DORITOSBE Have you ever noticed that Pirates of the Caribbean is eerily like Monkey Island!?! From the types of characters, the fantasy, to well.. almost everything? Especially MI3...
The pirate swinging from the ropes scene in the 1st, and Penelope's character looking like Elaine! Just two of MANY similarities.
Turns out the writer of Pirates of the Caribbean was the same writer slotted to write the script to the MONKEY ISLAND MOVIE!! Mysteriously, Monkey Island was never made....
