I think its due to his youth appeal and the fact that he is world cup winning captain and add it to that he builds a cancer hospital..

unlike pakistan India runs on state politics rather than a single leader..state development is based on who is cheifminister of that state..for eg Narendra modi has devloped the gujraat as most prosperous state (btw im muslim)..on the contrary state like UP has slow growth due to corruption.
